federal small pistol primers
For over 20 years, I’ve been using federal small pistol primers in 38 special for my 2.7-3.0g target loads of red dot, bullseye, wst, and so on. This was due to the fact that I was also loading 357 mag loads and did not want to deal with two different federal small pistol primers. When shooting double action, my Python did not always set off other brands of federal small pistol primers, which is why I switched to federal small pistol primers in the first place. Back in the dawn of the internet. Some people recommend using a mag primer to drop back a couple or a few tenths of a grain of powder. I’m not sure because I never use regular.38 primers.
For competition loads in 9mm and 38 mid, I prefer the federal small pistol primers.
When I chronograph them against FSP primers, I consistently get smaller ES and lower SD.
Surprisingly, the maximum velocity is either the same or slightly lower.
These are NOT maximum or even close to maximum loads.
Proceed with caution. YMMV.
If only I could find more FSPM…
Many Fsp standard primers were not found, but Fspm primers were.
Is there any reason why magnum primers should not be used with reduced.38 Special or reduced.357 loads?
Back from the last component shortage, I had a small herd of these in the closet. So I started loading them into my. There are 40 minor loads. The targets and steel plates can’t tell them apart. In my I always use magnum primers. There are 38 special loads.
